But I thought Jesus was from Nazareth!

Capernaum was a city of major importance in Jesus’ earthly ministry.  It is where 5 of Jesus’ disciples were found: Peter, Andrew, James, John and Matthew.  And because so many of his powerful works were done here, the town was said to be highly favored.  This is where he:
  • Healed Peter’s mother in law
  • Attended a big reception feast with many tax collectors
  • Chose his 12 apostles and delivered the renowned Sermon on the Mount
  • Healed the woman with flow of blood and resurrected Jairus’ daughter
  • Gave his “shocking” speech which caused many to stop following him
  • Miraculously provided money for the temple tax
And that is why Capernaum became known as Jesus’ hometown (Matt 9:1; Mark 2:1):

Hidden inner room where Christianity would have been practiced in secret during the time of Jesus and shortly thereafter.  This room is believed to be part of Peter’s home located just outside of the synagogue (Mark 1:29)
An extended family home with alley ways - multi generational families would have lived together to support one another.
Synagogue Selfie!

Yes we did! $$$

We listened as bible accounts of events that happened here were read.
Now that was cool!
