Have you been to the convention yet?
Don’t worry!! There will be no spoilers in this blog post. Just pictures and video (hopefully) to share the exciting atmosphere here at the IC in Copenhagen.
We were forwarded that the Danish culture is not very affectionate with those they don’t know very well. So we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by hugs and even a few kisses whenever we meet. And we have since learned that the Danish friends completed a one-week international cultural training course to know how to greet us! Now that’s love in action - getting out of their comfort zone to make us feel welcome. 🤗
Now what does come naturally to the Danes is how to party. This is a sample of our greeting at 8am on the first day of the convention:
This jazzed up version of the song was necessary because the arriving delegates were causing a traffic jam along the bike path that went around the stadium area. But that’s what happens when you break out a live band and add a human sea of singers = F.U.N!!!
The gifts were another fun way to get to know some of the friends. How their faces lit up when they find out that our congregation came together to make some of our gifts - every time, they touch the little token of your love to their own hearts. Thanks for your generous spirit!
What a treat to hear multiple talks by Bro Stephen Lett and Ralph Walls. We enjoyed the outdoor stadium despite the occasional bird or plane flying overhead. It was a comfortable 70ish degrees which felt great to me until the last day. The wind felt crisper than the temp suggested and it blew in a few rain showers. And suddenly I was missing summer again. But our smiles got bigger every day! Especially after we got the final count for the baptism: 215!
We joined delegates from 34 different countries with peak attendance of almost 40,000 (including other locations tied in via satellite). This was amazing as there are only 14,500 publishers in Denmark. The friends shared so many experiences of how this convention has helped them to rely on Jehovah - that the impact will be far-reaching both in their personal lives and in the community. Copenhagen will never be the same!
