McCloud Travel Bloopers and other fun stuff

We have had so much fun - but as with anything else, we’ve had our moments.  Enjoy the laughs!

So that’s why they call it lost and found?
Have you ever been somewhere unfamiliar, doing things out of the ordinary and lose something of great value?  Well, that was me one day early in the trip.  I was heading down to breakfast one morning and couldn’t find my wedding rings and bracelets.  Stacy and I tore the room up, searching luggage, pockets, secret compartments - to no avail.  He said he could feel my anxiety rising as the search went on for almost 10 minutes.  Guess I can’t hide my stress well.  And since this is on the blooper post, you know I found them.  On the bathroom sink.  Under my toiletry bag.

Vett, the video vixen
We were so excited to finally be floating in the Dead Sea.  At least most of us were.  Stacy was so excited that he forgot to bring his water shoes that I bought especially for this occasion.  So he wore his sandals (because those salt rocks were SHARP) - which is why they are still squeaking two weeks later.

Yvette, was more timid during the experience.  She’s not that found of large bodies of water and it didn’t help that it was 110 degrees so the sand scorching and the water was boiling!  So she decided to stand at a safe distance and be the videographer.  Which would have been great if. . .she had the camera pointed towards us.  Somehow, she flipped the camera so although we could hear her “video taping” this huge pile of salt from the sea and her brother getting help with his float - what we really got was a lot of background chatter to some wonderful footage of her bathing suit.

The Hollyland bag
Our Israel tour guide arranged for our group to do some shopping during one of our free afternoons.  Many of the sisters on our tour were eager to get to bartering.  When we returned to the hotel, one sister was so excited to share her finds.  One was a bag that had Jerusalem all over it with the accent words in bright colorful letters “Hollyland”.  When I saw it, I said - “Isn’t that supposed to say “Holyland”?  Guess that’s why she was able to get such a good deal on that one!
😇

Where is Megiddo?
We saw quite a few sites of historical significance.  And our group prided themselves of asking thoughtful questions of our tour guide - which he commended us on at the conclusion of our tour.  But some of us got a little confused on where we were during various points in our journey.  For example, while reviewing the key features of the model replica of ancient Israel, one sister asked, where is Megiddo?  We had visited Megiddo on an earlier day and it was not some 80 miles north of our current location.  Our tour guide jokingly smacked his head.
🤦‍♂️

Asian street fighting
During our stop in Qumran, we met up with many other tour groups. We got a good laugh watching one older couple heading into the shop.  Though we couldn’t understand the words they were speaking, their body language spoke volumes.  He was standing near their bus and she was trying to walk into the shop. He stomped his feet and stretched his arms straight down in clear disapproval.  They went their separate ways but I’m sure that was not the end of the story.
😡

Invasion of the body snatchers
In an obvious attempt to impress us tourists, one man walked past a open store front in Tel Aviv and decided to snag some merchandise.  But he didn’t know that he was being watched.  A tiny little shop owner came out right behind him and reprimanded him directly in front of him. And when she was done with him, she turned to us and flashed us a megawatt smile like nothing had even happened.

Chronicles of a tablet on the plane
We arrived in Zurich, Switzerland with about 30 minutes to catch our connecting flight and it would take an estimated 35 minutes to walk to the gate.  So there was little time to spare.  But, no McCloud adventure would be complete without a little drama.  Stacy left his iPad on the flight from Tel Aviv. And he only remembered it because we had an unexpected security checkpoint between gates where he was asked to remove his tablet from his bag.

Needless to say he left all his other belongings with me at this checkpoint as he sprinted back to the gate. Upon arrival, he explained the situation but was not permitted to go back onto the plane. But the kind man offered to go get it for him. If he could just remember his seat number.  They played a rush game of bingo until he found the seat and the iPad and Stacy ran off into the sunset clicking his heels along the way.

This is hot!
We added a temporary travel companion for our transition from Israel to Denmark. And she proved to be quite entertaining.  Once, at a restaurant in Jerusalem, we had a wide variety of dishes to share as a group family style. Our new friend, we will call her “Rose” (not her real name), was a little unsure about this set menu.  And she was quite vocal about it.

But once she saw everyone else digging in she decided to give it a try.  Her first issue was not enough frites ( 🍟 ).  She found several ways to say this - maybe because none of us acknowledged this complaint or agreed with her.

Then when the waiter pointed out that one of the dishes was spicy, she grabbed a big spoon full and added it to her meal.  One half bite later and she was sweating.  But this took her mind off the lack of fries.  Now she could only say, “Ooh, this is hot!”  Over, and over, and over again. We tried to offer bread, hummus and other fire quenchers to settle her down. But she was not to be consoled.  In fact, she forgot that the communal dishes were for sharing and she began double and even triple dipping.  Stacy couldn’t understand why I was asking to have some of his when there was plenty before me.

Did I un-do that?
And my last blooper was during the convention.  Bro Lett was giving the final talk of the day and had all sorts of amazing illustrations.  I was working hard to keep up.  But despite my focus, somehow that enemy sleep came over me. Like a soft cozy blanket next to a warm fire on a cold winter night - I feel asleep while typing!  Well, actually, I feel asleep while deleting because I don’t know how I managed to fall asleep with my finger on the backspace key.  Do you realize how small that key is?  And how many other keys there are that I could have chosen to rest on instead?
